Faxa Bay

Faxa Bay, Iceland
Taken by yours truly.

Stretching beyond what the eye can see
Lies the never-ending sea,
Inhaling, exhaling peacefully
The serene waters sigh and sway
shore to shore through night and day.

Yet the waves swell there
and sailors from their vessels tear
until it does engulf and ensnare,
But here: The serene waters sigh and sway
shore to shore through night and day.

Like mountains the waves grow tall
Crushing all things big or small
Leaving natives there to bawl,
But here: The serene waters sigh and sway
shore to shore through night and day.

Beneath the surface, in the depth
Further than man can hold his breath
The pressure rises and evokes death,
But here: The serene waters sigh and sway
shore to shore through night and day.

At sunset gazing out on this beautiful bay,
My heart sinks as the day fades away
No matter how much I long to stay. . .

Across the sea I must return
Even though my heart does yearn
For peace: Where the serene waters sigh and sway
shore to shore through night and day.
